Is your baby breech? Do you want to help them turn?
Approximately 3-4% of babies reach term in a breech or podalic presentation. It’s important not to assess the presentation until week 36, because most breech babies before 36 weeks will turn on their own during the final weeks, and assessing the presentation earlier can lead to unnecessary interventions and needless anxiety for the couple.
A breech presentation is not a pathology, but another way of being born within the range of normality.
But if we look at the reality of the moment, most mothers whose babies are breech are only offered the option of a caesarean, especially with a first baby.
We offer a service to help this baby move into the head-down position, and give you all the information so you can choose the best option for you.
Moxibustion sessions, a therapeutic method of traditional Chinese medicine that encourages the baby to move.
The “manteado” technique together with a Mexican “rebozo” (a kind of shawl that Mexican women use daily as clothing or a baby carrier). This technique is used by traditional Mexican midwives to help babies adopt the head-down position, among other things. The “manteado” is relaxing; it relaxes
the pelvis, the back, the uterus and the ligaments, relieves pressure and makes space for the baby to move and turn into the best position.
The “rebozo” is also used to support the abdomen during pregnancy, to relieve tension and pain in the lower back or even pain in the pubic symphysis area, caused by the weight and pressure on these parts of our body.
We will also use releasing postures and more suitable positions to encourage and invite your baby to find the best path towards a head-down birth.
In addition to all this, we will give you all the options so you can decide what your choice is. Some hospitals are open to the possibility of assisting a breech birth, and we will explain how we can reach that option, should that be the case
