Nowadays, almost everyone knows the different contraceptive methods on the market. Purely physical barrier methods (condom, diaphragm, cervical cap….), chemical methods (gels, creams, hormones), physical-chemical methods (IUD). In some cases these are not entirely harmless systems, others are uncomfortable or bothersome, and some even pose a real health risk.
You also hear about natural methods; often people aren’t quite sure what they are, or associate them with abstinence for a few days, but most think these methods aren’t very reliable.
Natural methods are the great unknowns. Two of them, the LAM (Lactational Amenorrhoea Method,
breastfeeding and amenorrhoea) and the sympto-thermal method are endorsed by the WHO (World Health Organization) and offer safety and effectiveness comparable to other methods such as the condom and the IUD.
Through the sympto-thermal method we can get to know our fertility and so avoid or seek a pregnancy, and even diagnose one. To use the sympto-thermal method
