Preconception consultation

The first weeks of pregnancy, when most women are unaware they are pregnant, are considered important for the baby’s development. Evidence suggests that preconception and prenatal exposure to certain risk factors — such as environmental exposures, toxic habits, unfavourable dietary habits, or poorly controlled chronic illnesses — can affect the health of the future baby.

Preconception care can help improve the mother’s wellbeing, through a healthy lifestyle before becoming pregnant.

Currently few women are aware of this kind of care.

The aim of this visit is to give women and couples more information, and so improve their state of health before conception.

Advice on improving a healthy lifestyle, diet and physical activity.

Assessment of diet and nutritional deficiencies that can improve with diet and, if needed, supplementation.

Assessment of the menstrual cycle to support conception.

Assessment of the sexual health of the woman and couple
